Andy Suarez
2023-2024 Residency Fellow
Andy Suarez has a Bachelor's degree in advertising and Graphic Design/Advertisement from Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) in the Dominican Republic. From an early age, Andy has had an interest in electronics and technology, which he nurtured through his graphic design degree and career. Andy is one of the founders of Karaya LLC, an immigrant and minority worker-owned cooperative that supports nonprofits with event coordination, communications, and project management. His interest in tech has grown into a deep love and interest in research. As a member of The Black Response (TBR), an abolitionist research, community education, and advocacy organization, Andy leverages his graphic design skills and interest in research toward the development and execution of data-driven campaigns. Andy leads research projects where he is responsible for data collection and data visualization and has started to learn methods of data analysis. Andy now considers himself an emerging data activist specializing in community-based response models and alternative public safety initiatives. In this capacity, Andy is developing protocols for dispatchers on the phone and responders on the field based on existing best practices gleaned from national research by the TBR team. Andy was born in the Dominican Republic and is a proud immigrant to the United States. He is the father of two daughters.
